Preface

The cultural effort made by the City of Dudelange has been exceptional over the last twenty years. As far as cultural institutions are concerned, the ccrd opderschmelz and its extraordinary programme are particularly noteworthy: jazz, world music, rock, blues, live cinema, contemporary theatre, dance performances…. events of all kinds and for all audiences that have built the reputation of Dudelange’s cultural action. Festivals such as Touch of Noir, the Singer Songwriter, Like a Jazz Machine and the Percussion Festival continue to strengthen the special position of the CCRD opderschmelz in the cultural landscape of the Greater Region and the country.

Major popular events such as the Celtic music festival Zeltik, the Fête de la Musique, the International Organ Music Festival, the Summerstage, the medieval Buergfest, the World Market and the Festival of Cultures also offer exceptional platforms for renowned ensembles.

In addition, there is the Dominique Lang Art Centre for contemporary art exhibitions and the Nei Liicht Art Centre for audiovisual art and contemporary photography. The Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines regularly organises thematic exhibitions on migration in the historical, economic, social and geographical context of the Grand Duchy and neighbouring regions. The newly inaugurated municipal museum houses a collection of precious objects, most of which come from archaeological excavations carried out on Mont Saint-Jean, near the restored remains of the old castle.
